With a proud tradition of seventy nine years ATKV Hartenbos is ready to don a new suit. This comes after the ATKV received approval to go ahead with plans for development of the Hartenbos Seafront.
After various discussions and presentations, the Council of the Mossel Bay Municipality gave approval to the ATKV to go ahead with the project
According to Japie Gouws, managing director of the ATKV group, the first phase of development will commence in July of 2015, continuing that the development will be an asset to not only to the ATKV and its members but also for the Mossel Bay and Southern Cape tourism industry.
The development will occur in four phases, the first of which will be completed by November 2015 to ensure holiday makers can enjoy their well-earned break over the festive season
The first phase of development will look as follows
- Moving the "Skoffelskuur" and "Na Donker" restaurants next to the Walvissaal;
- Construction of the ablution block at camp site B;
- Upgrading and extension of the heated, covered swimming pool;
- Starting construction of the first part of retail facilities and the new fun park;
- Completion of various road upgrades around the site.
Retailers are already showing great interest in floor space in the development and negotiations are now commencing in all earnest to ensure guests, shoppers and the community are offered value and variety.
A new company has already been created to execute the project, with the ATKV owning 50% plus one, with other shareholders owning the rest of the shares. All development work will be subject to a transparent tender process. Local service providers will be able to take part in these processes.
We also want to use the opportunity to inform guests and visitors to the ATKV Hartenbos resort during the construction period and the December 2015 holiday period of the following:
Although there will only be partial access to the fun park (trampolines, mini-golf, and cold swimming pool), a variety of alternative entertainment will be made available for young and old at the Amphitheatre.
Due to construction and adherence to safety regulations , certain parking areas will not be available during December 2015 but provision will be made for additional parking.
25 Camp sites on camp terrain B will not be available during construction and over December 2015 in the interest of safety.
The second phase of the Hartenbos Seafront will commence in 2016, for completion by December 2016, which includes transformation of the Walvissaal into a multifunction centre which, among others, will include an ice rink for holiday seasons, construction of additional retail stores as well as a brand new water and fun park.
Phase three of the development entails upgrading the existing beach resort centre while phase four includes construction of luxury holiday accommodation.
